"Field Trip" to Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ

Grounds For Sculpture is a 42-acre magnificently landscaped public sculpture park located in Hamilton, NJ. Since its inception, the park has built a collection of over 270 works of renowned artists. It was founded in 1992 on the site of the former New Jersey Fairgrounds by J. Seward Johnson, a sculptor and philanthropist. His desire was to make contemporary sculpture as an art form more accessible and to offer people from all backgrounds the opportunity to become comfortable with contemporary art. Grounds For Sculpture was conceived as a place where audiences could experience sculpture in a familiar, accessible, and informal setting. Carpooling: We'll be meeting at the Barnes & Noble parking lot in Devon. Park away from the store and face the access road. As a public sculpture park, there is no cost. There are restaurants on the grounds, including the Rat's restaurant, a 2010 Diners' Choice Winner. Or, people can bring their own picnic lunch. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes from Barnes & Noble.

18 Fairgrounds RD, Hamilton, NJ 08619, telephone 609 586-0616. From Phila.: Take I 95 North, across the Scudders Falls Bridge (over the Delaware River) to I 295 South to exit 65B/Sloan Ave. West. After exit, stay in Right lane 2/10ths of a mile, following signs for Grounds For Sculpture, and take the jughandle to cross over Sloan Ave. Go thru the traffic light onto Klockner RD. Take Klockner RD to the next traffic light and turn Right onto East State St. Extension. Go 8/10ths of a mile and make 2nd Left onto Sculptors Way. Go 2/10ths of a mile and turn Left into the main entrance of Grounds For Sculpture.
